It's nice to know you can go there and find an instrument you will like- plus select from a wide assortment of accessories and books. “Of the many challenges as a professional musician is keeping your instrument in top playing condition. Finding a repair and maintenance technician that you can completely trust is indeed rare. Matt Johnson exceeds the high standards that I expect when I leave my instrument in his care.
Recently, he completely reconditioned my trumpet, a 1964 Selmer K-Modified. The horn required a lot of work which included plating the valves, fixing leaks, cosmetic work and eventually preparing the entire horn for gold plating. Matt's attention to detail and pride was evident in the finished product. Virtually everyone that sees the horn marvels at the appearance and quality of the superior workmanship.
I have had several opportunities to watch Matt work on my horn while I wait. His patience along with a genuine affection for musical instruments means that all repairs and adjustments are nothing short of perfect. Matt Johnson is among the best instrument repair technicians in the world. We are fortunate to have such a highly respected professional in the Chicago area.”

“I know it's a phrase that gets overused, but I really won't let anybody but Matt or Jarod touch my horns. I have seen these guys fix horns that I didn't think could be fixed. Matt brought my beat up old tuba back from the dead, and his installation of a Greenhoe valve on my Bach 42 trombone looked like a factory job.
When they told me they were opening up a shop with Pete, I was thrilled! This dynamic trio has brought something back to the Chicago area that has been missing for a while... a shop where pros and amateurs alike can pick-up new horns, sheet music, all the accessories we need, and the best repair we could ask for. All this and a great leather couch to hang out on? That's what I'm talking about!”

"Jarod Bufe is an excellent repairman who keeps my horns in top playing condition. As much traveling as I do with my horns I depend on them and rely on Jarod's expert crafstmanship. BandSource as well has everything I need as a player and educator. Thanks guys!"

"Matt Johnson is the only guy I want touching my horn; I'm hard on my instruments, and he gives them the tender, loving care that they don't get from me. I consider his work to be the best in the Chicago area, and I know from talking to other brass players that I'm not alone.
Jarod Bufe is an artist; it shows when he's playing a tenor solo, and it shows when my school gets an instrument back that he's worked on. My favorite woodwind players in Chicago all say 'he's the guy', and I believe them."

"Jarod is a master repairman. From the first time I played my horn after he worked on it, I could tell that Jarod understands how to really make a horn sing. The very best repairmen inspire you to make music on your instrument- Jarod Bufe does just that."
"As a teacher, I am extremely impressed with the way Jarod and BandSource treat student instruments. They know that, just like a professional, a student needs and deserves the same attention to detail to be inspired to practice and make music."
